Up for a Challenge? Students are!!

Hello all!! If you get a moment, check out the link that I attached above.

Some students today are losing interest in their studies and assignments. They are being faced with content that may not be meaningful enough to them because it is lacking in real-world context. In our interconnected world, with abundant access to powerful technologies, fascinating methodologies to implement true learning are not impossible. As teachers we have the resources to reach our students and meet their needs.

Challenge Based Learning which I will refer to as CBL, is an engaging multidisciplinary approach to teaching and learning that encourages students to leverage the technology they use in their daily lives to solve real-world problems through efforts in their homes, schools and communities.

The old school ways of teaching and learning models are not as effective as they once were. Since this generation has such viable access to vast amounts of information, we should embrace the roles of content producer and publisher and allow our students to utilize these resources.

Challenge Based Learning is collaborative and hands-on, asking students to work with other students, their teachers, and experts in their communities and around the world to develop deeper knowledge of the subjects students are studying, accept and solve challenges, take action, share their experience, and enter into a global discussion about important issues.

  • How will the teams communicate?

  • Where will resources be shared?

A shared working space is helpful for a successful challenge. The workspace should be available to students 24/7, include needed resources, access to activities, a calendar, and serve as a communication channel with the teacher and between team members.

The CBL approach is a successful approach here in the Hampton Cove Schools. Please reply to my post and tell me about how your students have come to you with admirations of this approach to their education (because no doubt they have expressed their excitement to you) :)

Thank you!
